This is a very unique doll handmade by Betty Curtis out of molding clay, cloth, felting, thread, and other media. What's the most interesting is the basket of tiny dolls each removable from the basket and individually crafted, no two are the same. This must have taken a long time to create, and you can really appreciate that when looking at it up close. The artist has carefully crafted all the tiny details including the historical wear on the "old lady peddler" giving her glasses, full cap, cameo, lace shawl, apron, full historical petticoats and bloomers. There is even a separate doll in a bassinet to lay at the peddler's feet. She has a full cloak, suggesting that weather or season was cold where she was selling her dolls. This is a OOAK piece, so there is not another like it. Betty Curtis was a skilled doll maker and you can google other pieces of her work. She was known for her attention to detail in miniature.
