My Twinn Dolls are built on a plastic skeleton structure that is covered in a custom cut foam. My Twinn did not make any replacement parts like single feet or arms in different skin colors. However, sometimes the foot or arm can be popped back into place if the vinyl has not torn away from pressure or pulling. But if the vinyl opening has torn, it cannot be replaced. Arms are sewn through the plastic to the cloth body which is something that cannot be removed and resewn by hand. Therefore the only possible fix is to do a body swap from a Donor My Twinn Doll. We will locate the appropriate donor for you in the white body or tan body according to the year of your doll as approximate as we can. This service is listed as a My Twinn body swap in our hospital and involves matching your doll's skin tone and cloth tone to the original as part of the fee.
We have two ways to get an estimate, you can use our contact page to request a custom quote or you can build your own quote on our website if you have a doll needing common services. Go to our Doll hospital page. Scroll down to see the services. Select the services that best work for your Dolls and add them to your cart. Add any products you want us to use to your cart such as wigs or eyes. If you get stuck, let us know, we are here to help!
We do not carry parts for every doll ever made so there will be instances where you may need a repair and we don't have parts listed. Contact us before placing and order so that we can advise you if it's something that we can locate for you, or if we have donor dolls that can lend parts to repair yours. We don't want you to ship your doll until we know we can find what is needed. We are heavily networked with other doll hospitals and may be able to locate parts faster for you.
We have a $10 TBD service listed for rips and repairs. Please contact us prior to sending your doll with pictures of your doll and we will advise you to put the number of rip and services that will be reflected of the hours it will take to repair your doll. We will also advise if the stuffing needs to be replaced at the same time.
We do not replace heads. The original Pleasant Company doll molds are no longer used by Mattel, so in order to fix any hair or eye issues on a pre-Mattel doll, they will swap your Pleasant Company head for a current Mattel made head. At Bbeauty Dolls, we understand how important it is to keep your doll looking her best without changing her look. We are the only American Girl Doll hospital that has replacement wigs for all the original Pleasant Company doll characters. We will replace the hair so that your doll is restored without changing the head. If you wish to do it yourself, we also sell the wigs separately for Samantha, Felicity, Kaya, Kirsten, Molly, Addy, and Kanani. Want something different? We can also transform your doll into a new look.
Yes, but it does depend on what you want to do. Eye changes after a doll's face has been customized cannot happen. Because the doll needs heat to remove and replace eyes - it takes boiling or blow dryer heat to get them out. Usually custom face ups are sealed with Mr. Clear clear coat to keep the artist's face up in tact. Boiling or blow dryer heat will melt it off and your face-up would have to be re-done. However wig changes, restringing, or tightening of the limbs and even ear piercing are all possible on a custom and can be changed.
The simple answer is that baby dolls are sewn in a way that doesn't allow for easy part replacement. When the cloth parts wear away and age or become stained as children play with them, the legs and arms are usually machine attached through the plastic to that cloth. Hand sewing needles cannot penetrate those holes through the vinyl, so it becomes very hard to remove or replace a cloth body and keep the original arms and legs in tact. As well most baby dolls have rooted hair to make it easy for children to brush and play with, where wigs are more delicate. Since we do not offer re-rooting services we are not able to repair hair that has fallen out or is missing or cut. Lastly, baby dolls use a variety of sizes of blinking eyes. They are very hard to find in tact and in a size that is needed. But if a baby doll does not need major repair and needs something simple like a cleaning, restyling of the hair, or a small rip repaired, it is something we can do.
Tonner went out of business and didn't produce any parts for dolls. While he still does limited private releases, no parts are produced. With most brands with mass manufacturing, you can find less expensive dolls to use for parts. With Tonner this is very rare. Most Tonner dolls sell for more than a parts value, and finding things like missing hands or wigs in good standing are exceptionally rare. Many of Tonner dolls also have rooted hair and painted eyes, with a few very small exceptions of inset eyes. Most of the doll bodies were really not made for easy repair.
Barbie's are made where the heads can easily come off and sometimes legs can be snapped back into place, but largely what happens on Barbie such as cut hair, chewed fingers or hands, missing hands, bleaching or sun damage, or broken limbs don't have a simple solution. Barbies weren't manufactured as a doll that you fix and it's been largely disposable and replaceable as a low value toy. However customizers have been remolding, cutting Barbies into projects and crafting from them and we completely support that! But it is not our specialty. Currently Barbie re-inventions such as sculpting and repainting services are handled by individual artists and can be found on Instagram or web searches. There are artists that will re-root a barbie's hair or transform them. We invite you to seek out an artist for those kinds of services.
The AG Hospital sends it back as a factory reset. American Girl's repair service does one thing: return the doll to factory condition. That means original hair, original eyes, standard stringing. If your Samantha has a replacement wig that isn't factory, or eyes in a color she didn't come with, they'll put it back the way it left with the current molds available. Everything that makes her yours gets undone. We preserve what matters to you. If she has a wig you chose, eyes you selected, or anything that makes her specific to your collection, we work around that. We fix what's broken without erasing what's personal. We handle dolls AG won't touch. Pleasant Company era girls with the original head molds, Kirsten, Samantha, Molly, Felicity — the AG Hospital handles will swap the head style. We will replace her hair and keep her looking renewed, but historically the same. We also do repairs on customs that AG won't touch or fully customize into something original. We do things they don't. Wig swaps, eye changes, face-ups. These aren't services AG offers at all. If you want to update her look rather than just restore it, that's when you choose us.
Our average waiting time is from 2-6 weeks from the date we receive your doll. Some dolls coming into our workshop require parts to be ordered and longer time frames to restore. Other dolls are quick to fix as parts are already on hand. We balance both jobs to get dolls done and back to their owners as quick as possible within that average time.
Currently we are not working on restoring dolls with pull string mechanisms, chip boards, or electronic component dolls as we don't have a qualified technician for that specific skill on hand. However we can replace broken criers in a baby doll the "Ma Ma Crier" for example as that is a readily available part.
If your doll is fragile, you'll need to wrap it for transit. Bubble wrap is ideal to protect from bumps and such on the journey. As we don't work on Composition or porcelain, most Dolls will be plastic or vinyl and shouldn't need much wrapping. Send all the parts of your doll. If your doll's leg fell off, make sure you send it and any parts that held it on. This helps us locate the correct parts if the doll is unfamiliar to us. You can send your doll with clothes if you want them cleaned with a doll cleaning, but if clothes are not a part of your repair service, keep them at home and send your doll nude. If you feel comfortable sending only the head of your doll for wig or eyes service you can do so. If not you can send the full doll and we can take it apart and put it back together for you.
Services that are listed with zero dollar amount are services that require custom quotes. If you need that service, we need to manually add it to your order to complete your quote because it's based on your doll's current condition. Each condition is unique so it's an service cost we can't predict ahead of time without seeing pictures of your doll.
