Since the early 90's when Pleasant Company was beginning their collection of historical collections, the fandom has grown for many of us as adult collectors still loving the historical creations. Since then, American Girl has explored more variations targeted towards the modern children of today following trends on today's movies and interests of our little youngsters and much less focus on the historical characters we know and love. As our beloved childhood dolls start to wear down, refurbishment and restoration are necessary to keep our beauties looking their best. Unfortunately American Girl does not re-wig, they only re-head which is a problem if you want to keep your PC doll's look as Mattel dolls have a completely different look and a different quality level. Bbeauty has answered that dilemma by producing similar styles of the early PC character hair styles so that parents and collectors can re-wig or send their dolls to our hospital for us to re-wig and keep their PC dolls look unchanged.
Producing the early 90's designs come with difficulties as the same hair types and the factory know how has changed over this time period. Factories are having to learn past techniques as the techniques on the PC wigs and even their feel is different. This is why periodically we go through a period where we pull a character's wig production out to work with getting closer to the original as factories learn and figure out new ways to create the styles.
This particular re-vamp was an upgrade from the previous Kirsten Classic wig to the Kirsten Loops wig. With the Kirsten Classic, the braids would continuously come out too thick to go into loops and so it was sold as a pigtail wig that could convert to a "down" style. But fans really liked that loops style and we kept checking with the factories to get those braids thinner without compromising the overall weight of the wig. It took producing our Gretyl wig where the braids had to go over the head in two rows and stay within a certain measurement for the factories to learn exactly what to do next, and as soon as they mastered Gretyl, we returned back to Kirsten and succeeded.

We purposely pictured the pre-ordered wig on a Kirsten in an Edwardian outfit with different color bows above the braids as we wanted to make sure customers could distinguish that we put one of our wigs on a revamped Kirsten Doll and didn't just put a Kirsten in a new outfit. In the earlier 90's Kirsten's hair color was lighter and in more recent years her hair color has been very golden. This is the same for Samantha that originated with a very light brown and then modern Samantha's had a darker brown shade. We selected a "tinsel" colored blonde as a nod to earlier Kirsten's.

Because this wig is closer to the original, we took additional photos of the wig on a wig stand to show exactly how it comes. Originally the wig was going to come with just rubber bands at the top of the loops, but in working with our factory, we found some blue woven bows as another nod and so each wig comes with a set of woven bows. This was another reason why we wanted to do wig on a head pictures to see how this wig actually comes. Many have asked if we will produce Kirsten Classic again. We feel it would be a step back as the Kirsten Loops wig is closer to the original and has the braid widths that everyone was asking for. If anything, we may decide to produce a second color shade in the future that perhaps reflects the Kirsten color from the modern releases that is more golden rather than going back to the Classic. Note that the Kirsten Loops is selling fast after filling all the pre-orders and those that purchased after and we will be getting a head start on getting more produced on our next order to keep Kirsten available.
