Sasha dolls are named after their designer, Sasha Morgenthaler, the world famous Swiss doll maker.  She designed dolls with a dream in her mind - a vision of how a child would look and move in the age of innocence.  Her dolls were originally individually made in wood and later produced in series where they were done in full vinyl bodies for children's play.

Sasha dolls natural movements, their soft hair and wistful looks bring special enjoyment - they are also "real". They can be washed and clothes can be changed.  Children love them and are a favorite of collectors.

This doll was produced by the Trendon Ltd Company in Cheshire England where the dolls were unmarked.

Please note that these dolls came to me unclothed and without boxes, so I have done my best to date them and restore them in the best possible condition.  Both dolls were restrung to ensure that they are in proper working order.

Both dolls were determined to be 1960's versions based on the style of their face paint, eye styles, and that they both measure 16" high and not the 17" high that was manufactured in later years. I've determined they are rare models, only because while there are many Sasha's that are listed, the 1960's versions are harder to come by and to purchase.  To date the dolls, I had a hard time finding similar dolls for actual sale and had to hit up reference books and sites to exactly find their year consistent with their styling.  I have valued them taking into account that they don't have their original boxes or outfits versus other listings of dolls with the same age - these two aren't factory perfect so I did value them accordingly.

Sasha:

Sasha's hair is pretty thick and is about elbow length with a mix of light blondes with some golden blonde blended in.  She has a high bang and it has a bit of a jagged cut.  I believe that her former owner had cut the bangs to give her that high bang because in pictures of other dolls, the bangs hit closer to the eye brows.  Her hair can part in the back with pigtails styling and still maintains a bit of a flip near the edges.  There are no imperfections on her body or marks and she is in perfect condition for being out of box.  I would say the only flaw is that her bangs are about 1/4" shorter than other dolls I have seen.

I restored her so that she is in collectible condition.  She was naked when I received her, so I commissioned an artist to create the beautiful dress coat she is wearing.  It is made of a burnt orange wool and trimmed in ivory delicate laces with hand embroidery around the hem and along the sleeves.  I've given her ivory diamond patterned knee socks and taupe flats to complete her look.  Under her dress she is wearing white bloomers.

Below are my notes on how I dated her with the online research I found:

- She has the pin dot iris in her eyes

- Her make-up is very pastel, not bright like later models, with darker shadows on her eyes.  Later versions had very bright eyeshadow and defined darker lining.

- Her lip color is consistent with dolls from the 1960's era in an almost pepto-bismal pink

- She has no body markings making her pre-Gotz manufacturing

- She is still vinyl so she is not part of the earliest handmade models by Sasha as those were wood

- She measures exactly 16" high which is consistent with 1960's molds, later models from 1970-1980 were 17"

- Her coloring including eye color, lip color, and style are consistent with other 1960's dolls listed

Sasha has no box or no original outfit, she does come with a wooden stand consistent with her origins and her special be-spoke artist made outfit.

Gregor has a rather 1960's mod chop hair style.  He comes with his original blue sweater which is common to see him in.  He is wearing the pants from the more rare London Outfit which is a dark of faux dark brown leather pants that match his original faux brown leather shoes. He has a matching stand to Sasha's. His sweater does have several holes. Gregor has a pink highlighter mark on one wrist (his sweater covers it), but is in otherwise excellent condition. Gregor has also been restrung due to age.  He has been cleaned throughout.

Both dolls have been lovingly restored from played with condition to collectible condition and are ready for display.

Gregor comes with a matching wooden stand to Sasha for display.
