Sasha dolls are named after their designer, Sasha Morgenthaler, the world famous Swiss doll maker. She designed dolls with a dream in her mind - a vision of how a child would look and move in the age of innocence. Her dolls were originally individually made in wood and later produced in series where they were done in full vinyl bodies for children's play.
Sasha dolls natural movements, their soft hair and wistful looks bring special enjoyment - they are also "real". They can be washed and clothes can be changed. Children love them and are a favorite of collectors.
This doll was produced by the Trendon Ltd Company in Cheshire England where the dolls were unmarked. Later on they were produced by the Gotz Company in Germany where back stamps and/head stamps were applied to identify the time period when they were manufactured.
This doll is a Trendon Ltd manufactured doll and is unmarked on the vinyl. The box stipulates that it was issued in 1983. The hair is a human hair wig and it is netted red head doll. This is rather a unique doll as it indicates that it was a display doll. On the left foot as shown in the picture there is a drill hole through the shoe and into the foot, likely to hold the doll on a pole in a retail store. The doll comes with a catalog listing the outfits in the series but the outfit the doll is wearing is not pictured in the catalog. I wasn't able to find this outfit online or sold by anyone currently so I don't know the name of it. It consists of a poncho like red plaid over coat, a pleated red plaid underskirt and white sweater. Under the skirt she is wearing white sweater undies which I thought was unusual, but it does match the sweater, so ok. White tights and black slip on shoes (one shoe has the drill hole).
Also in the box was a clipping that says Outfit 108 Sasha Redhead White Dress and the word "display" again. It looks like an original magazine clipping with the Trendon name on it. It is in fact the #108 outfit that is in the box. Originally this outfit came with a pair of white tights and a pair of black slip on shoes. Also included was a pair of original white ankle strap shoes which were sold with the original outfits for many Sasha dolls. There is a pink or red faded border near the bottom of staining, not sure what from. It is possible that the doll display is wearing the white tights and black shoes from Outfit 108 and maybe had the outfit changed at some point to the plaid. Other than being a display model, making this Sasha particularly unique and rare, she is in pretty new condition. The other pair of shoes "white" has no hole, and when you put those on, you forget there's a hole at the bottom of her foot. Honestly it was more interesting going through this doll than a new in box version because there were all these treasures inside and curiosities. I hope she finds a Sasha lover that enjoys the uniqueness of this particular Sasha.
